Lauris Technologies Launches FF1225-XT Ultrasonic Flow Meters for Extreme Temperatures

Lauris Technologies Inc. is proud to announce the release of its new series of ultrasonic flow meters, FF1225-XT, designed for industrial processes with extreme temperatures—from cryogenic levels to 600°C, the highest operating temperature in the industry. This ground-breaking development nearly doubles the 350°C limit of the closest competitor.

CEO and founder Ivan Melnyk, PhD, commented:
“Ultrasonic gas flow meters are the instruments of choice for custody transfer applications due to their unmatched accuracy. They are also indispensable for flare gas measurement, where wide rangeability and tolerance to impurities are essential. However, transducer aging, caused by depolarization of piezoelectric materials at high temperatures, has historically limited ultrasonic flow meters. The piezoelectric properties are irreversibly destroyed at the Curie temperature (Tc), typically around 400°C. To ensure transducer longevity, conventional meters are restricted to ½ of Tc or 200°C.”

Lauris has overcome this limitation by using an innovative waveguide approach. Instead of attempting to create new high-temperature piezoelectric materials, Lauris places conventional high-sensitivity piezo elements away from the hot process zone, connecting them via waveguides. This design mirrors methods used in fiber optic sensing and allows the transducers to withstand permanent exposure to temperatures up to 600°C.

The WT600 ultrasonic transducers, made from titanium, set this new benchmark, and specialty alloys can extend the operating range even further. On the low-temperature end, the WT600 transducers were successfully tested in liquid hydrogen (–253°C), making them suitable for all industrial cryogenic applications.

Paired with Lauris’s proven FF1225 ultrasonic flow processing electronics, the FF1225-XT series delivers the same ±1% accuracy and over 8000:1 rangeability as previous models, now across a dramatically expanded temperature range.

With the FF1225-XT, Lauris Technologies continues to push the boundaries of ultrasonic flow measurement, offering reliability and precision in the most extreme industrial environments.
